Daily journal December 7, 2001, Major property-tax protest at county square, Charleston!

Over 15,000 homeowners appealed their new appraisals for being so high with most of them doubled over last year in value and taxes. The taxing of homes is out of control and for a recession year this should be reversed to half of last year's tax, not double last year's tax in my opinion. The people were given a tiny chance to be heard. About 95 percent of homeowners were increased and one person reported an increase in his taxes even though his appraisal remained the same. One person who built his house in the 1960’s then had a $65.00 per year tax but now the same house is a thousand dollars per year, another person whose house and land in the country went from a value 75,000 to 250,000. The Law rules actually forbid any increase in taxes due to reassessment other than for a cost-of-living in-crease and that must be where they get that 2% this year. This regulation is being ignored both by the county and taxpayers. The newspaper did recite this rule but no one seems to confront the tax office for any real answers as to why the rule is not applied. It was stated that the county is manipulating property value to get a tax increase through the back door.

This county should abate the increase and live within a budget but not their budget. The insiders always find more and more ways to spend money for good causes of bleeding the taxpayers to death. In my opinion this is a crime against God and man but it’s not for this government. The balloon will burst very soon and all this will come down. Higher taxes are to support higher salaries for those atheists that infiltrated our schools. Higher taxes are to build more Harry Potter witchcraft schools to serve more sweet hyperactive foods until we have more incidents of demonic action against innocent children by the children. Retired people on fixed incomes see a choice coming of eating or of paying their taxes on their homes many of which are in need of major repair but they cannot afford to repair. I could see this happening, it was clear to me for some time that the government would tax us out of house and home. This is the way the government has of taking your home and putting you out into the street. If taxes are legal on homes and I do question that they are, then the tax rate should be based on cost at the time it was built less depreciation and until there is no longer value. Many properties in town have less than 0 value when in bad state of repair. The county does not keep these properties up, the homeowners do, why should any person be taxed on fair market value when they are not selling their house, their home. A cartoon in the newspaper shows an old pickup truck carrying two flags going down the road with a sign saying "United We stand", the American flag and a Russian flag. United with the new world order and with the United Nations whatever the big money cause they may have. United with the New Age movement to save the earth in spite of God. United with the devil and bombing villages in Afghanistan this very day and killing reportedly 300 people in one village that had no arms at all. Who can defend against our thousand pound bombs? Have mercy, stop killing upon these poor pitiful natives in this far off land of dust. Milk today is altered 2% butterfat and taste like whitewater. If I were going to drink milk, I would want raw whole milk and certainly not pasteurized homogenized processed milk. I will attend an art show in Charleston today and visit the marketplace on Meeting Street. City life in Charleston is different than any in the world and it is a major tourist attraction.
